History of Zero

Aim: How do we add and subtract signed numbers?

Course: Grade 7

Pre-Lesson Homework: Research the history of the number zero. In a short paragraph (100-200 words), briefly answer the following questions:

  • Who invented zero? 
  • How has zero been used throughout history?
  • How would math be different without zero?

Students will discuss their responses in pairs and share with the rest of the class.
